Mark Kargela DPT

Dr. Mark Kargela is a physical therapist and educator and advocate for patients with chronic pain.

Dr Mark Kargela received his Masters in Science of Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University in 2003. He later went on to obtain his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine in 2009. He gained his Orthopedic Clinical Specialization in 2008 and completed a fellowship in orthopedic manual physical therapy in 2012 from Evidence in Motion. He has taught continuing education coursework to physical therapists around the country within Evidence in Motion’s fellowship program and continuing education courses up until 2016.

In his current role, he provides physical therapy services and supervises Midwestern University’s Physical Therapy Institute, a university-based clinic setting, where he practices general orthopedics with special interest in spine and persistent pain conditions and mentors students in the clinic. In addition to his work at Midwestern University, Arizona, Mark also has been regular lecturer at Phoenix-area universities and continues to serve in an adjunct faculty role at Franklin Pierce University where he teaches a course in pain science.

Mark owns his own continuing education company where he teaches coursework in modern pain neuroscience and its incorporation into daily patient care. His company’s mission is bringing the patient voice back to healthcare and helping clinicians better understand and help people in pain.

He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Mallory who is a professor in physical therapy at Midwestern University, his daughter Evelyn, and his dog Max. If you do not find him nerding out on pain science reading, you will find him with his wife at concerts, in search of their next favorite foodie destination, running, or hiking.

Watch Dr Mark Kargela talk about the importance of listening to patient’s stories and experiences when treating chronic pain conditions.

We do claim that this website has some useful information for you to learn about pain, why it persists and the things that you can do and know that can help it change over time. But it’s still only a website, even if it’s a good one. So we have to make sure you know that text, graphics, images and other material here is for informational purposes only. Like it is on WebMD. Only we hope that we don’t make you more worried about your pain. The information on this website is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, opinion, diagnosis or treatment. We are very careful to make sure we write high quality information, but even the best online information can’t ask you specific questions about your condition. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health care provider about your medical conditions (or print out the page you’re interested in and ask them to explain it). We hope you can access better care than Dr Google and you don’t have to rely on us.
